Firefighters Continue to Battle Several Blazes in Southern California

We check in with our sister stations in Thousand Oaks and Malibu on how the fire fight is going there.

Thomas Fire Destroys Hundreds of Structures

The fast-moving Thomas fire in Ventura County has so far consumed over 130,000 acres and is at 10% containment.  In Ojai, the continuing fire danger and mandatory evacuations are keeping residents on alert and making it difficult to assess the number of structures lost so far.

Wildlife Evacuated from Sanctuary in Los Angeles County

Some of this week’s destructive wildfires have been tearing through prized equestrian country. Yesterday in North San Diego County, horses were freed from their stables at the San Luis Rey Training center to escape the fast moving Lilac Fire. And earlier in the week, about 30 horses could not escape the fast moving flames of the Creek Fire in the foothills just north of L.A. At a wildlife sanctuary not far from that ranch, the horses survived. As did a few hundred other exotic animals.

California Lawmakers Look to Protect DACA Recipients

A bipartisan group of California Congressmembers is pushing for protections for so-called Dreamers: undocumented immigrants who arrived in the U.S. as kids. President Trump is ending the current program that protects these immigrants , called Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, in March.
