When UC Santa Cruz was offered a trove of photos a soldier stationed on Okinawa took in 1952, one of their history professors jumped on the offer. Then he took students to the island to seek out the exact places where Captain Charles Gail shot his photos, and found some of the people he photographed are still alive, or at least, remembered by people alive today.
