Working from data from the California Employment Development Department, the Bay Citizen has worked up a nifty chart of this year's layoffs by county and company.

Top-ten axing corporations this year:

  1. NUMMI
  2. IAP World Services
  3. Sun Microsystems
  4. Injex
  5. BFI Waste Systems
  6. Service America Corp
  7. Johnson Controls
  8. Applied Materials
  9. Kaiser Foundations
  10. Adobe

But don't forget, the year's not over yet. A couple of weeks ago Kara Swisher reported that Yahoo! will start laying off about 650 employees on December 13. That's Monday.

That would put the Big Y! into the No. 2 or No. 3 spot on the list...
