Sunset at GSSP 2010If you've ever dreamed of gazing up at the dark sky, far from city lights, through telescopes longer than most SUV's, then Golden State Star Party (GSSP) is an event you cannot miss this year.

With the stargazing season upon us, GSSP is the only major stargazing "star party" that occurs in Northern California.

From June 29th through July 3rd, the town of Adin will host several hundred amateur astronomers who will spend four nights camping under the darkest sky in California.

No telescope? No worries. Attendees are friendly and welcoming to newcomers. I attended GSSP in 2010 and was very pleased to meet many amateur astronomers who were more than willing to share their views of the night sky with me.
