Games for Change bypasses the generally violent trend in video gaming and focuses on creating games to boost awareness of global issues.
One of the games they offer is called Ayiti: The Cost of Life, and it challenges its players to manage a rural family of five in Haiti over several years, keeping them healthy, educated and helping them to survive. This is an excellent example of bringing real world issues into a child's life and helping them to understand the human rights and poverty issues that face many people around the world.
You can play any number of these games online as well as choose games to play by age range.
I am really excited by this project and the traction its gaining. Best of all, a Games for Change meetup is being held on December 12th in San Francisco for those interested in getting involved or learning more.
