RHoK is solving global challenges with innovative software.

Hackers are often stereotyped as darkly clothed villains, waiting to break into your computer given the right moment. Fortunately, this is not often the case, with many software experts interested in building better software to make our lives better and safer.

One great example of this is, Random Hacks of Kindness (RHoK), an international organization of software engineers and risk management experts that come together to develop software that responds to critical global challenges. RHoK's mission is to develop technology to make the world a better place by building a community of innovation.

On December 4th and 5th, a global RHoK Hackathon will bring together the brightest hackers from around the world, who volunteer their time to solve real-world problems. This two-day hackathon is an excellent opportunity to meet and work with some of the brightest software developers while building applications that can help communities across the world with disaster recovery.

Hackers and software engineers across the planet are invited to help participate in this event. Teams work together to create hacks to pitch by the end of the hackathon. Winners receive prizes and major geek points. Bay Area folks can register here to attend the hackathon being held at Mission Social.

Examples of previous winning hacks include the "Break Glass" app developed at RHok 0 which can transmit via cellular phone the GPS location of a person following a natural disaster, along with information about whether the person was safe or injured (and if the latter, how severely).

Join RHoK on December 4th and 5th to help build software that could have a positive impact on millions of lives.
