The Egg Bot Live in Action.

A local electronics company has recently released the Egg-Bot, a machine that allows users to draw intricate designs on any spherical object.

Designed by Evil Mad Science Laboratories (EMSL), the Egg-Bot is the latest creation from this Sunnyvale-based business.

As they explain on their site,"The Eggbot has a rigid but adjustable chassis that allows you to mount spherical or egg-shaped objects of various sizes, and rotate them about their axis of symmetry using a stepping motor under computer control. A second stepping motor moves a pen about an axis perpendicular to that "egg" axis, and a small servo motor raises or lowers the pen above the egg surface."

A closer look at the anatomy of the Egg-Bot:

Egg-Bot can be controlled from within Inkscape (a freeware illustration program) or other programs that have the ability to send serial commands over a USB port. As you can see, the designs are pretty impressive and might just give Faberge a run for it's money! You don't need to know any programming to create these designs -- as long as you can draw an image, trace a photograph, or import designs, you can use the Egg-Bot. You're only limited by your imagination:

EMSL is taking orders for the Egg-Bot if you'd like to make your own creations. They've also open-sourced the kit (both hardware and software) so you can build out the kit and your designs as you see fit!
