Check, Please! Bay Area Kids is Looking for the Next Generation of Food Critics

KQED’s James Beard and Emmy Award-winning Check, Please! Bay Area is seeking passionate young local foodies for a new series of episodes of the popular program, which puts amateurs in the role of food critics. Check, Please! Bay Area Kids, which premiered in Fall 2018, will give a new handful of children the unique opportunity to dish out about their favorite local restaurants under the guidance of the show’s host Leslie Sbrocco.

Producers are looking for articulate and passionate foodies between the ages of 10 and 14 to star in new episodes which will premiere in late 2020. Applications open online at kqed.org/checkplease on Monday, August 26 through September 30, 2019. Selected applicants will be invited to an in-person interview during the month of October, after which children will be selected for the shows with production starting in January.

Each episode of Check, Please! Bay Area and Check, Please! Bay Area Kids features three new guests who each select a favorite local restaurant to review. Those restaurants are visited anonymously by the panel members who then join Sbrocco for a lively in-studio discussion and debate about their dining experiences at each.
