"Saint Misbehavin' is an unabashed love letter to the world that defies the cynicism of our age." -- Stephen Holden, The New York Times
October 3, 2011 San Francisco, CA --- Wavy Gravy is known as the MC of the Woodstock festival, a hippie icon, activist, clown, and even a Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavor. The story of this cultural phenomenon, a man whose commitment to making the world a better place has never wavered, is told in the newest film in KQED’s documentary film series Truly CA. Director-producer Michelle Esrick’s The Wavy Gravy Movie: Saint Misbehavin' premieres on Monday, October 17 at 10pm on KQED Public Television 9.
From his early days as a beat poet in Greenwich Village and living with Bob Dylan over the legendary Gaslight Café, to traveling around the globe on two painted busses with the Hog Farm commune, to his current work as co-founder of the Seva Foundation and co-director of Camp Winnarainbow, Wavy Gravy’s life shows that we can make a difference and have fun doing it. The Wavy Gravy Movie: Saint Misbehavin' weaves together intimate vérité footage, reflections from an array of cultural and counter-cultural peers, and a rich collection of never-before-seen archival footage to tell a story that is bigger than the man himself.
The Wavy Gravy Movie: Saint Misbehavin' features Wavy Gravy, his wife Jahanara Romney, Dr. Larry Brilliant, Jackson Browne, Ram Dass, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Grateful Dead, Steve Ben Israel, Woodstock producer Michael Lang, Odetta, Bonnie Raitt, Buffy Sainte-Marie, and more.
