KQED wins seven Northern California Emmy® Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, June 13, 2011 KQED has won seven Northern California Emmy® Awards for its public television stations KQED and KTEH. The 40th Annual Northern California Emmy® Awards ceremony was held Saturday evening, June 11, and honored The Next Frontier-Engineering the Golden Age of Green, which focuses on renewable, clean energy technologies; This is Us, a KTEH series profiling the remarkable people of the South Bay; Global Focus VII - The New Environmentalists, featuring portraits of six passionate and dedicated environmental activists; and QUEST, a local series concentrating on science, nature, and the environment. Linda Giannecchini, a long-time engineering special projects manager and assistant director at KQED, was also awarded the prestigious Governors’ Award for her years of service to the National Television Academy and the television industry.

The Next Frontier: Engineering the Golden Age of Green cuts through the debate about global warming and climate change, focusing on the renewable, clean energy technologies that can improve our future and create significant economic opportunities. The documentary features interviews with some of the top energy and economic experts along with educators and high-level government officials, all striving to develop clean energy solutions and alternatives to burning fossil fuels.

 

The South Bay and Central Coast region is known for stunning redwoods, mountains, and ocean views, but it is also home to some of the most fascinating people in the country. This Is Us (kteh.org/thisisus) introduces viewers to some of the remarkable residents of this area Wednesdays at 7pm on KTEH Public Television 54.

 

Global Focus VII -- The New Environmentalists is the latest installment of the Emmy® Award-winning series featuring portraits of six passionate and dedicated activists. They are true environmental heroes who have placed themselves squarely in harm’s way to battle intimidating adversaries, while often creating partnerships with unlikely allies. The New Environmentalists share a common goal, safeguarding the Earth’s natural resources from exploitation and pollution, while fighting for environmental justice in their communities
QUEST (kqed.org/quest) explores the stories and people that impact science, nature, and environmental issues across Northern California. QUEST includes a weekly half-hour television program on Wednesdays at 7:30pm on KQED Public Television 9, weekly radio segments on Mondays at 6:30am and 8:30am on KQED Public Radio 88.5 FM, an interactive website, and educational guides.

The Emmy® is awarded for outstanding achievement in Television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. San Francisco/Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmys®. Northern California is composed of television and cable stations from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada. Entries were aired during the 2010 calendar year.
