– Public Television Stations KQED and KTEH Nominated in Categories Ranging from Arts/Entertainment to Historical/Cultural to Health/Science/Environmental –

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA, May 9, 2011 – KQED is pleased to announce 21 nominations for the 2011 Northern California Emmy® Awards for its public television stations KQED and KTEH. The stations are recognized for quality programming, which includes QUEST, a local series concentrating on science, nature, and the environment; This is Us, a series profiling the remarkable people of the South Bay; This Week in Northern California, the long-running local public affairs program; Check, Please! Bay Area, a local restaurant review series; and Truly CA, a series of independent documentary films about life in the Golden State.

John Gregg, a KTEH producer, received six nominations, one of the highest numbers for an individual. Linda Giannecchini, a long-time engineering special projects manager and assistant director at KQED, will be presented with the prestigious Governors’ Award.

In addition, the Board of Governors will award Linda Giannecchini, a long-time engineering special projects manager and assistant director at KQED, with the prestigious Governors’ Award for her many years of dedicated service to the television industry and to NATAS.

The 40th annual Northern California Area EMMY® Award ceremony will take place on Saturday, June 11 at the Regency Center in San Francisco.

The Emmy® award is presented for outstanding achievement in television by The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  San Francisco/Northern California is one of the twenty chapters awarding regional Emmy® statuettes. Northern California is composed of television and cable stations from Visalia to the Oregon border and includes Hawaii and Reno, Nevada.  Entries were aired during the 2010 calendar year.
