-- KQED now carried on Comcast and Charter Cable --

January 4, 2011, San Francisco --- KQED Public Television, one of the nation’s most-watched public television stations, has expanded their coverage area to include San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria. Available only via Comcast or Charter Cable services, KQED fills a void left by the departure of Los Angeles-based KCET from the PBS system. In the Santa Maria area, KQED is now carried in both analog and digital formats on channel 17. Residents of the San Luis Obispo area now receive KQED in analog and digital formats on channel 8. Plans are to eventually provide the service in HD formats.

“We are pleased to extend KQED’s public television service to the San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria areas,” stated John Boland, president and chief executive officer of KQED Public Media. “In addition to continuing to receive PBS mainstays like Frontline, Antiques Roadshow, Masterpiece, and Sesame Street, residents of this area will also receive KQED’s award-winning local programming like QUEST, Spark, and Truly CA.”
