When Robin Leach bought a painting by Britney Spears for $10,000 last week (the money went to Vegas Cares, a benefit for the victims of the Las Vegas mass shooting), the world officially started seeing Britney in a more enigmatic light. The video of her creating the flowery artwork had already mesmerized Instagram, thanks to excellent direction, wardrobe, stool use, and soundtrack choice (Mozart!):

The truth is though, Brit has been an experimental artist for years now, as these previously shared works show:

In fact, examine Ms. Spears' Instagram account closely, and in amongst the home-catwalk footage, cute animal pics, and kooky affirmations, are nuggets that reveal Britney's true depths:

As well as her unerring commitment to creativity:

Britney's love of art is a consistent theme on her social media, and the greatest element of all is that this girl does not discriminate. She likes what she likes, she offers public praise to unknown artists (the term "Great work!" appears repeatedly), and she admires everything from greeting card fluff...

...to serious, Renaissance-style religious paintings. The one behind Brit's luminous green swimsuit here is a piece by Polish-American artist, Tomasz Rut.

In between, she finds time to admire landscapes:

Inspirational feminist sketches:

The work of turn-of-the-century French painter Carolus-Duran:

Street art:

The creations of model William Tyler:

Modern surrealism:

And -- a running theme -- her own children's cartoons:

Britney is basically pop music's answer to Andy Warhol -- she finds art everywhere! Here's hoping that her first big sale sees her plunge ever further into her own delightful canvas-based expressionism.
