Trans Singer Breanna Sinclairé Makes History at Oakland A's Game

It's been a big sports week for the Bay Area. Riley Curry won our hearts. The Warriors also won something. And San Francisco-based Breanna Sinclairé became the first trans singer to perform the National Anthem at a professional sporting event.

You might recognize her name from our 2013 profile on her, which covered her journey from being homeless on the streets of New York to becoming the first openly trans classical voice major at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. “I’ve been to some dark places,” she said at the time. “What kept me going inside was knowing I had this gift. When nothing else made sense, I knew I had this voice and that eventually, it would take me places.”

She can now count the Oakland Coliseum's baseball diamond and a place in the history books as some of those places. Check out her milestone performance:
