When: December 30th from 8:00PM to midnight and December 31st from 8PM-3AM

Streets of San Francisco NYE - Canadian duo Chromeo headlines the sixth annual edition of this one night electronic music festival. Despite what its name may suggest, Streets of San Francisco doesn't actually take place in the streets of San Francisco. It takes place at Fort Mason Center in the Marina. So expect bros, tank tops, and fist pumping.
Where: Fort Mason Center
When: 9:00PM - 2:00AM
More info here.
POPNYE - If 360 degree, full color laser shows are your thing, then hop on BART and head to Oracle Arena in Oakland to see Armin Van Buuren and other DJs with less European names keep the dance party going all night long. Heads up: Just going to the event website is intense, so prepare yourself for this one.
Where: Oracle Arena
When: 6:00PM - 2:00AM

For The Dapper Socialite
Black and White NYE Ball - While the Marriott isn't the ritziest hotel in the city, it plays host to one of the city's classiest NYE events. There's a red carpet, an open bar, and it's black-tie optional, which means someone will show up in jeans. But if you want to dress to the nines and dance like a maniac, and you don't have any weddings coming up, this could be your best bet.
Where: JW Marriott, Union Square
When: 8:00PM-1:30AM
More info here.
NYE SF City Hall - On second thought, if you're trying to emulate the wedding environment, head to City Hall for a night of high class revelry, and a few DJs you've likely never heard of. Will Mayor Ed Lee be there? Probably not. But a lot of people who look like politicians will, because suits and dresses are mandatory.
Where: San Francisco City Hall
When: 8:00PM - 2:00AM

For The Hipster
New Year's Eve: Cut Copy Live - Buying a flight to Australia for NYE is expensive. Buying a ticket to see Australian electronic duo Cut Copy isn't cheap, either. Their show at the Mezzanine sold out pretty quickly, so you'll have to pony up some cash on the secondary market.
Where: Mezzanine
When: 9:00PM - Whenever they kick you out.
More info here.
New Year's Eve 2015 with Mayer Hawthorne - The Grammy-nominated artist may be a bit too mainstream for some, but he won't actually be singing at the event; he's set to DJ. Meaning: If you close your eyes and dance, you'll likely have no idea who's on stage mashing buttons, anyway.
Where: Public Works
When: 9:00PM - 3:00AM
More info here.
The Flaming Lips With a Little Help From Their Fwends - That's not a typo. The Flaming Lips intentionally misspelled "Friends". That's how you know they're hip. Better yet, they're also a wonderfully talented band, one that has won multiple Grammys. Then again, so has Nelly, but that's beside the point.
Where: The Warfield
When: 8:00PM - Whenever they stop playing
