Some Possible Plots For The "Mrs. Doubtfire" Sequel

Good news for all you '90s kid: the long awaited sequel to Mrs. Doubtfire, the 1993 San Francisco set Robin Williams cross-dressing/divorce comedy, has finally been confirmed!

It's been over 20 years since we checked in with the Hillard family of Steiner Street and a lot has changed in the world and San Francisco since then. Here are three possible plots we'd like director Chris Columbus to consider:

Doubtfire: The Family Legacy

Daniel Hillard's children are now grown with families of their own, but, while Lydie and Nattie are happily married, middle child Chris has hit a rough patch with his partner, Kevin, and the two have agreed to a trial separation. Chris isn't taking the news well, especially because it means he's severely limited from seeing the beloved pure-bred Cavalier King Charles Spaniels he and Kevin have been breeding. When Chris finds out his ex is looking to hire a dog walker, he goes to dad and makeup artist uncles Jack and Frank to help disguise him as Euphegenia Doubtfire's canine loving daughter, Conchatta. Kevin hires Conchatta right away upon seeing how positively the spaniels respond to him, err, her, and falls in very confused love with the middle-aged Scottish woman. Hilarity ensues as Chris learns to be a better man as Conchatta and eventually justifies his deception to Kevin as a James Franco-style performance art stunt.

Doubtfire: A Play In One Ellis Act

Daniel Hillard has just found out he is to be Ellis Acted from his longtime home. When no other affordable housing is available, Daniel hears about a beautiful old building with below market units, but there's a hitch: they are only rented to senior women. Desperate to stay in San Francisco, Daniel resurrects Mrs. Doubtfire to secure an apartment and suddenly Euphegenia is the hit of the building. All the other ladies love Mrs. D, but there's one pesky caseworker who doubts and eventually exposes her secret via a connection at the NSA. At film's end, Daniel becomes a housing advocate for San Francisco renters and Mrs. Doubtfire is the new face of the anti-eviction movement.

In this psychological thriller, Daniel Hillard starts having strange blackout episodes years after putting away his Doubtfire and retiring from his hit kid's show "Euphegenia's House." Lipstick on pillowcases, calls to his house from retired widowers at all hours of the night, stubs for bingo games in his pockets; is it possible Mrs. Doubtfire has returned? Sensing that these blackouts are the key to the mystery, Daniel sets out to record himself, Paranormal Activity style, and discovers that Mrs. Doubtfire has manifested as a separate personality in his psyche and is taking over his body. The hep old granny who can hip-hop, bebop, dance 'til you drop and yo, yo make a wicked cup of cocoa, won't be silenced so easily... She likes being in control and wants to find a way to be the permanent host of Daniel's body. Can Miranda and the kids save him from herself?

Or, we could always go with my favorite scenario: Doubtfire and Featherbottom, a rollicking road movie where Mrs. Doubtfire teams up with Tobias Funke's own outrageous cross-dressing nanny character from Arrested Development. Featuring a special cameo by Dustin Hoffman as Dorothy Michaels from Tootsie.
