This Week in Music: Christine McVie Reunites with Fleetwood, Fiona Apple Debuts New Song, and More

As one gets older, it becomes increasingly more difficult to keep up with the music world and increasingly easier to just cuddle up to the albums you've loved for years (cut to: me wearing my granny house coat obnoxiously singing Joanna Newsom songs). But you should snap out of that and reengage 'cause it's only Wednesday, and a lot of wonderful things have already happened in music. Let me count the ways:

1. Christine McVie Returns to Fleetwood Mac

This news deserves a whole post of its own. It deserves sky banners and bulletins from the emergency alert system and probably some movement on the Homeland Security color bar. Christine McVie, the force behind such hits as "Say You Love Me," "Don't Stop," "Everywhere," and "You Make Loving Fun," left the band in 1998, but is finally ready to rejoin her mates. "I suffered from some kind of delusion that I wanted to be an English country girl," she now explains, "and it took me 15 years to realize that it's not really what I wanted at all." The band's rep says that a tour may be in the works for as early as this year.

2. Fiona Apple Releases New Duet with Her Sister

We got a taste of what a collaboration between Fiona Apple and her cabaret singer sister, Maude Maggart, would sound like on last year's "Hot Knife," and now we get to hear what they can do with a cover of a 1950s love song by Austrian composer Anton Karas (hear the original). The song is part of Sweetheart 2014, a compilation that also features Vampire Weekend, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, and Beck.

3. The Knife Finally Tour the US

Seeing the Knife's live show is on my bucket list (and it should be on yours too). The avant-garde brother-sister duo haven't been to these shores in a super long time, causing American fans to wonder if they would have to make a trip to Sweden to witness the spectacle. The band is going to save you the trip, when they pass through Oakland on April 15th. In their words: "We have put on our glitter, we are ready to sparkle. This is special, if we were birds, (maybe we are) our feathers would shine (they do)." Move over, Don Draper; that is the best advertising I've ever read.

4. Bruce Springsteen Joins Jimmy Fallon in BridgeGate Parody

When New Jersey makes the news, Bruce Springsteen is never too far behind. Last night, the Boss made an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to mock Governor Christie's bridge scandal to the tune of "Born to Run." Lyrics include: ""In the day we sweated out in the streets, stuck in traffic on the GWB, they shut down the tollbooths of glory 'cause we didn't endorse Christie." Oh, and did I mention that Jimmy and Bruce both dress up in matching sleeveless denim button-ups and red bandanas?

5. Neutral Milk Hotel Will Turn You Into a Crying Beatles Fan

The band that was responsible for a good chunk of the crying you did in your dorm room has come back together and they will be playing two nights at Oakland's Fox Theater on April 9th and 10th! I looked into my crystal ball and this is what you will look like on either or both of those nights:
