Red Bull Flugtag, a contest of human-powered flying machines, made a big splash in San Francisco's McCovey Cove on Saturday.
Ostensibly a competition for who can fly the farthest, long ago turned into a celebration of wackiness. Red Bull first held Flugtag (German for "flying day") in San Francisco in 2002, so Saturday's meet was something of an anniversary. It attracted an audience of 116,000, the soft drink company says.
For the record, Team Movember soared to first place with a distance of 54 feet, Sugar Skull 138 came in second, Team Skyjackers took third and The Californauts were awarded the People’s Choice award.
Here are some of the photos and YouTube videos documenting the event.
