California won't be split up anytime soon. The state Supreme Court blocked a ballot initiative that would have divided California into three separate states.

The court took the unusual step of removing the ballot initiative -- authored by venture capitalist Timothy Draper -- from the November ballot.

Draper's initiative would've split California into the states of Northern California, California and Southern California.

Splitting up the state in various ways has long been a dream for some residents, with "State of Jefferson" flags flying in parts of California.
