With the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program set to expire on March 5, the fate of an estimated 1.8 million "Dreamers" hangs in the balance.

DACA is the program that protects young immigrants who were brought to the United States illegally by their parents from being deported.

After multiple immigration bills went nowhere in the Senate, it is unclear what would happen to people who currently have legal protections under DACA.

But how meaningful is the March 5 deadline? With ongoing court battles over the program, DACA will almost certainly stay in place beyond March 5. Two separate federal courts have blocked the president from ending the program.
