Santa Rosa residents woke up early Monday morning to a blazing red sky and ash-filled air. The night before, howling winds began spreading smoldering ashes through the city, causing untold devastation.
"Blocks of homes burned down. Major businesses burned down. Infrastructure has burned down and is damaged," Santa Rosa Mayor Chris Coursey said. "This is a very serious fire like nothing we've seen here before."
The Tubbs Fire leveled the Coffey Park neighborhood in northwest Santa Rosa, almost completed wiped out the Journey's End mobile home park just east of Highway 101 and left dozens of businesses gutted.
"Nothing left, nothing left," muttered Robert Attubato, a resident at Journey's End, as he returned to find his former home in ashes.
