California's congressional delegation split largely along party lines as the Republican-proposed American Health Care Act passed the U.S. House of Representatives.

This is how California's congressional delegation voted on the bill, which repeals and replaces the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare. The bill to repeal the 2,000-plus-page Obamacare was less than 130 pages.

Two Californians -- Kevin McCarthy and Nancy Pelosi -- closed the debate for their respective parties.

"Americans are a practical people," said Republican Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Bakersfield). "We know that we can have fair health care for those who need it without trapping everyone in a government-run system."

McCarthy noted that many insurers have left largely rural counties in rural states like Iowa, but did not mention California.

"You know what doesn't cover pre-existing conditions? A health care system with no insurers," McCarthy said. "The American people are demanding a change ... we have a chance to listen to the American people and repeal and replace Obamacare."

Immediately after McCarthy spoke, Democrats took to the floor and said 6 million people in California will lose coverage if the bill becomes law.

"Affordable health care is a civil right, a right for everyone, not just the privileged few," said Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, (D-San Francisco). "There is no mercy (in this bill). Trumpcare is a moral monstrosity that will hurt Americans. I reject the priorities of Trumpcare. Tax care cuts for the rich ... if you believe in the health and well-being of the American people, you must reject this bill."

"If you're a moderate, and you vote for this, you walk the plank," Pelosi warned. "(This vote) will be tattooed on your forehead. You will glow in the dark on this one."
