Ferry commuters in Tiburon who were expecting Golden Gate Ferry to take over service next week won't be greeted by a new fleet of ferries on Monday.

An agreement to assume the service between the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District and the Blue & Gold Fleet was expected to be approved Friday morning.

But district spokeswoman Priya Clemens says the board withdrew the agreement from consideration after the Angel Island Tiburon Ferry Co. threatened to sue.

"We were very surprised to get this notification," Clemens said. "And now we all need to take a pause. We don't want to move forward without being certain of our position and where this all stands."

The postponement means Blue & Gold Fleet will continue to operate commute service at Tiburon until further notice. The Angel Island Tiburon Ferry Co. was not immediately available for comment.
