Update: SFPD Arrests 2 in June Jordan School Shooting

Update, 5:30 p.m. Thursday: San Francisco police confirm they've made two arrests in connection with a shooting that injured four students at an Excelsior District school on Tuesday.

Police have said they're seeking as many as four suspects in connection with the shooting at the June Jordan School, in which a shooter appears to have targeted one particular 15-year-old female student before fleeing the scene on foot with several others.

Three other male 15-year-old students hit by gunfire were bystanders, according to police.

One student suffered life-threatening injuries in the attack, but district officials on Wednesday said all four are recovering from their injuries. District officials have said the shooting appeared to have been committed by a "small group of outsiders."

Police did not release further details today about the arrests.

Update, 5:30 p.m., Wednesday: One day after four students were injured in a shooting in a parking lot at San Francisco's June Jordan School for Equity, there was extra security and counselors on hand at the high school.

The shooting Tuesday left one student listed in critical condition after at least one suspect shot her and three other students as they left school for the day.

The shooting occurred at 3:20 p.m., according to San Francisco police officer and spokesman Carlos Manfredi. He said as many as four male suspects were seen running from the scene of the shooting wearing dark hooded sweatshirts.

"The incident actually took place inside the parking lot of the school," Manfredi said, but the school was locked down for about an hour because officers first discovered the victims inside the school building and thought there could be an active shooter.

"We found out after the fact that this incident did not happen inside the school," he said. The school lock down was lifted just after 4 p.m.

San Francisco Unified School District released a statement describing the shooting as "an isolated incident outside of the school building where one student was being targeted by outsiders." The district's statement notes that three "bystanders also suffered injuries."

"Based on the preliminary information we believe there may have been a specific target," Manfredi said. "I could tell you that this was not just a random shooting, and the suspects didn’t come here just to randomly shoot at any of the victims here."
