Warriors' Draymond Green Arrested After Reported Altercation in Michigan

Golden State Warriors star forward Draymond Green was arrested on assault charges early Sunday in East Lansing, Michigan, reportedly after an altercation in a restaurant there.

The arrest was first reported by Michigan news website MLive.com, which cited sources as saying Green was detained early Sunday morning.

An employee at the East Lansing jail told KQED Monday morning that Green was booked into the facility Sunday and released.

ESPN reported that Green was arrested at a restaurant and that the victim was a man.

"It was basically an altercation between two guys," police said. "There's no injuries. He was released with a $200 bond on Sunday."

Green is scheduled for arraignment on July 20. If convicted, he would face a maximum of 93 days in jail and a $500 fine.

But East Lansing Police Department officials had earlier declined to name the arrestee, citing the department's privacy policy.

"We have confirmed that we arrested a current NBA player for assault around 2:30 early Sunday morning," said East Lansing police Lt. Scott Wriggelsworth.

He added the arrest occurred after "an altercation between two individuals."

The Warriors issued a statement saying the team "is aware of news involving Draymond Green in Michigan over the weekend. At this point, we are gathering information and will have no further comment until we have a better understanding of the situation."

Green, 26, did not immediately return a call and message for comment on Monday morning.

Coming off the finest season of his four-year NBA career, Green averaged 14.0 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 34.7 minutes per game in 2015-16. He helped lead the Warriors to an appearance in the NBA Finals, while making headlines for some physical play along the way, including an altercation with LeBron James that led to his suspension in Game 5 of the championship series.

This summer, Green was selected to represent the United States in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Last summer, the Saginaw native agreed to a five-year contract extension with the Warriors worth $85 million. He was originally drafted 35th overall in the 2012 NBA draft.

At Michigan State, Green was a consensus 2012 All-American and set the program's all-time record for career rebounds. He is one of three Spartans with over 1,000 career points (1,517 points) and 1,000 career rebounds (1,096).
