Panhandling, tents, people passed out on sidewalks, mental illness -- it’s all there on San Francisco streets, in good economic times and bad.  No matter what politicians do or say, the problem doesn’t seem to go away. In this special live broadcast, we’ll explore the political forces that make homelessness such a persistent problem and hear about the latest propositions put forth by members of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. And we want to hear from you: If you could make politicians take one action regarding homelessness, what would it be?

We invite you to join the conversation by posting in the comments below, calling in at 866-733-6786 during the live broadcast or tweeting us at @KQEDNews and following the hashtag #sfhomelessproject.

Guests for the hour include:

  • Bevan Dufty, former San Francisco supervisor and former director of HOPE SF
  • Jennifer Friedenbach, executive director of the Coalition on Homelessness
  • Gwen Kaplan, founder of the North East Mission Business Association and ACE Mailing
  • Jennifer Loving, executive director of Destination Home,  a public-private partnership to fight homelessness in Santa Clara County
  • Jim Ross, political consultant, a co-sponsor of Care Not Cash in 2002
