Asian Tiger Mosquito's Disease-Spreading Potential Worries Health Officials
A new species of mosquito is showing up in California -- and that has health officials worried that West Nile Virus could go from being a mostly summer-time problem to one that plagues the state year-round. This year, 28 people have died of the disease, which is approaching last year's record of 31 deaths.

L.A. County Hopes Shiny New Voting Machines Will Boost Turnout
It's Election Day. Last year at this time, Los Angeles County had the lowest voting rate in the state. Just 31 percent of its registered voters cast ballots. The county is home to more than a quarter of California's registered voters. Officials think they've got one solution to the problem, with new machines that could roll out in 2018.

Hiring a personal fitness trainer is a luxury for most of us. But at the Lake County Tribal Health clinic, it's free. Patients with diabetes or at risk for the disease can enroll in a program to lose weight with trainer Johnny Gonzales. For our series Vital Signs, we met up with Gonzales as he coached Jorge Mendez through some weightlifting exercises.
