Package of Bills Seeks to Protect Undocumented Immigrants in State
This is the third straight year Democrats in Sacramento have pursued landmark laws that expand their rights. Perhaps the most ambitious bill would expand health care coverage to undocumented immigrants. Study Finds Court Fines Discriminate Against California's Poor
A recent federal report slammed Ferguson, Missouri for systematically discriminating against poor, black residents, in part by using fines and fees to fill city coffers. A Bay Area civil rights group now says California's system of spiraling court fines and fees are "chillingly similar" to Missouri and have resulted in millions of people losing their right to drive.

State Lawmaker Pushes for Employment Rights of Pro Cheerleaders
Professional sports is big business, but what may be a surprise, is that pro sports cheerleaders, historically, often don't make the minimum wage. San Diego Assemblywoman, Lorena Gonzales is a former cheerleader for Stanford. She says for too long cheerleaders were told working for a professional team is a privilege and meant they didn't have to be paid for their labor. So she introduced a bill to change that.
