California Suspends School Grades for First Year of Common Core Test
Across California, kids are hunkering down this week to take standardized tests that are in-line with the Common Core. But the California Board of Education said on Wednesday that those scores won't count. That means for a second year in a row, Sacramento won't put out an Academic Performance Index, or API.
Cutbacks Still Felt Deeply In California's Civil Courts
State lawmakers grilled the agency that oversees state courts at a hearing on Wednesday over an audit of the agency. Court officials said changes have been made, but the spending in question pales in comparison to deep budget cuts in recent years. Those cuts mean that Californians have to wait, and wait, when they head to court -- and those delays can have serious human costs.
