In the heyday of bebop, Charles McPherson spent a decade playing with the legendary bassist Charles Mingus. McPherson might not be as well-known as his former boss, but the San Diego saxophonist has built a standout career of his own. Now, at age 75, he shows no signs of slowing down, according to jazz critic Andrew Gilbert.
