Kaiser Mental Health Workers Launch 7-Day Strike
Mental health workers at Kaiser Permanente are walking off the job Monday, the start of a seven-day statewide strike. The National Union of Healthcare Workers says Kaiser needs to hire more therapists and psychologists, and that by not doing so, patients are put at risk. Kaiser was fined $4 million last year by the state, in part because of long wait times for mental health. But Kaiser disagrees, saying it increased the number of therapists by 25 percent in the last three years.

Calexico's New Police Chief Aims to Clean Up Department Under FBI Investigation
The border town of Calexico sits about two hours east of San Diego -- and there's a new sheriff in town. His name is Michael Bostic, and he's been Calexico's police chief since October. He says he's inherited a department plagued by extortion and professional misconduct.

Netflix Bags Another Golden Globe for 'House of Cards'
Kevin Spacey won his first Golden Globe last night, for best actor in a TV drama for his portrayal of Frank Underwood in "House of Cards." The show is distributed by Los Gatos-based Netflix. Amazon won a Golden Globe for best musical or comedy for its show "Transparent." These awards are a big win for the fledgling Internet TV industry in its attempt to compete with traditional TV.
