LIbby Schaaf. (Alex Emslie/KQED)

In any new administration, it's important to set the proper tone. To that end, at a victory celebration at Lake Merritt yesterday, Mayor-elect Libby Schaaf rode a giant mechanical snail. (Warning : It also shot flames.). Here's the video, from KQED's Andrew Stelzer, plus one from KTVU.

You can see Schaaf take the reins -- of the snail, not the government, yet -- at around 1:25.

By the way, the giant snail car originated in West Oakland in 2008, apparently. Click here to see how it was built.
