Video: Behind-the-Scenes Preparations for S.F.'s Fireworks Show

Jeff Thomas has been producing fireworks shows for 40 years, but he still gets excited for each one. Thomas, a technician for Pyro Spectaculars by Souza, invited KQED to Pier 50 this week for a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into setting up San Francisco's 4th of July fireworks display.

Weather permitting, this year's show will take place on Friday, July 4th at 9:30 p.m. Thomas, who will be working the master controls from the Maritime Museum, expects the show to last about 20 minutes. He says the best viewing place is from Aquatic Park and from the end of Pier 39.
