Today people in the Bay Area and nationwide will take part in the Transgender Day of Remembrance: a time to promote nonviolence against trans people and increase awareness about the issues they face. Tonight's event comes as Berkeley teenager Sasha Fleischman recovers from serious burns after an attack that might have been motivated by gender identity.

KQED Public Radio's morning anchor, Joshua Johnson, talked about the Day of Remembrance and the issues raised in the Oakland attack with Tiffany Woods, the transgender programs managers at Tri-City Health Center in Fremont.
