Veteran's Day is always an important time for reflection, and to thank the millions of men and women who have served or are currently.
I found myself poking around census data this morning, curious to find out more about the veteran population in the Bay Area. Where do they live? When did they serve?
A few interesting findings:
- 6.5 percent of the California population has veteran status, compared with 8.9 percent of the U.S. population.
- In the Bay Area, Solano County has the highest percentage of veterans. They also have the largest percentage of female veterans. Compared to other counties, a high number who served in the Gulf War have settled in Solano County.
- Santa Clara County has the largest total number of veterans.
- Bay Area veterans are most likely to have served in the Vietnam War.
