Oy. This could be even better than the Harvey Milk Airport thing.
News has broken about a resolution introduced in the Assembly to name the western span of the Bay Bridge, which connects San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island, "the Willie L. Brown Bridge," after Da Mayor himself.
Which raises the question: Does anyone want to have their name on that thing at this point? Though keep in mind, we're not talking about the new and troubled eastern span, whose scheduled Labor Day weekend opening is in doubt after being plagued with serious construction problems. No, the Willie L. Brown Bridge would refer to the relatively unproblematic western span, which connects San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island. The eastern span nomenclature is open for suggestions. (The Lindsay Morgan Lohan Bridge? We're just spitballin' here.)
From the San Francisco Chronicle ...
The measure, Assembly Concurrent Resolution 65, needs a majority vote in the Legislature to take effect. Resolutions do not require a signature of the governor. Caltrans would erect signs with the name once there are sufficient private donations to cover the cost.
[Resolution sponsor and Assemblyman Isadore Hall III, D-Compton] said the California NAACP approached him and asked him to introduce the measure. He said he has not talked to Brown about it.
