San Bernardino Sheriff's Detective Laid to Rest
Hundreds of law enforcement officers and thousands of people from around Southern California packed the San Manuel Amphitheater on Thursday to pay tribute to San Bernardino County Sheriff's Detective Jeremiah MacKay. He was gunned down in the standoff that finished Christopher Dorner almost two weeks ago. MacKay was remembered for his courage, his humor and his skill as a bagpiper. County Sheriff John McMahon said every law enforcement officer in California owes MacKay's family a debt of gratitude.
New Poll Shows Overwhelming Support for 'Pathway to Citizenship'
A new Field Poll out Friday reports overwhelming support for allowing long-term undocumented immigrants to stay in the US legally. The survey of registered voters found 90 percent support for a pathway to citizenship -- if immigrants have been here for a number of years, if they learn English, and if they pay back-taxes. Poll director Mark DiCamillo says the high level of support across all political, racial and ethnic groups reflects a change in the debate since President Barack Obama's re-election.
Streetlights Likely To Go Dark in Central Valley Community
About two million Californians live in unincorporated areas, outside the sheltering arms of a city governance plan - and budget. Many of these communities are so poor, they lack basic infrastructure, like sewers or sidewalks. One of these places, a tiny town in Fresno County, has locals expecting the streetlights will be turned off next week.
