Thousands of workers at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are back on the job following an eight-day strike by the clerical unit of the ILWU. Other unions honored the picket line, and after an anxious week, they're relieved to be pulling a paycheck again.

Climbing Earth's Second-Largest Tree
The December issue of National Geographic features a natural wonder familiar to Californians: the President, one of the oldest giant sequoia trees in Sequoia National Park. It's the second-largest tree on Earth, according to Steve Sillett of Humboldt State University. He climbed it to find out.
