Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and transportation projects will fill a large space on the agenda of newly elected California Congressman Eric Swalwell, he told KQED’s Scott Shafer on This Week in Northern California on Friday. Shafer caught up with Swalwell during his second week of orientation in Washington, D.C.

Swalwell  served as an Alameda County assistant district attorney and Dublin City Councilman before unseating fellow Democrat Pete Stark to represent the 15th Congressional District in the Nov. 6 election. Stark was a 20-term incumbent endorsed not only by Barack Obama, but by Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Nancy Pelosi and a string of other big-name California politicos. Some major campaign gaffes, however, helped make him vulnerable.

Thirty-two years old, Swalwell is the second youngest member in Congress.
