Supreme Court Considers Prop. 8, DOMA
It's been more than four years since voters passed Proposition 8, banning same-sex marriage in California. After two lower court rulings striking down the measure, the question of Prop. 8 finally made it to the U.S. Supreme Court Friday.

First Inmates Released After Three Strikes Reform
It's been less than a month since voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 36, the measure which reforms California's three strikes law to require that third strikes be serious or violent felonies. It also allows some inmates serving 25 years to life for a non-violent, non-serious crimes to get their sentences reduced. Already, two inmates have won freedom after their sentences were reduced.

Running a Marathon Behind Bars
On a recent Sunday morning, 21 runners put on their shoes, took a final stretch and set out to run 26.2 miles under the clear blue Marin County sky. Distance running is a natural for the scenic trails of Marin, but these marathoners were confined in a prison yard at San Quentin State Prison.

Zoroastrians Keep Faith Alive in San Jose
When you think of the world's great religions, Zoroastrianism will not likely come to mind. One of the world's most ancient religions, it used to have millions of followers. Today that number has shrunk to around 200,000 people, mostly in India and Iran. Still, its followers around the world gather six times a year to celebrate Gahambar, a religious festival to honor the fruits of the seasons. Recently, believers gathered in the hills of San Jose at one of the state?s only Zoroastrian temples to pray, eat and keep their faith alive in the West.

Farming Builds Community at 'Pie Ranch'
Farmers often lament that consumers have become detached from their food, that we don't understand what it takes to get strawberries or milk or meat to the market. At Pie Ranch, an educational farm south of San Francisco, inner city kids are learning what it takes to grow and harvest the ingredients for pie. The farm also builds community through hard work, good food and music.
