MERCED, Calif. (AP) — A Congressman from California's Central Valley is resigning.
Democratic Rep. Dennis Cardoza, whose district includes Modesto, Stockton and Merced, announced his resignation in a statement on Tuesday. It takes effect at midnight.
The statement does not cite a reason for the resignation. But in an interview with the Fresno Bee, Cardoza says he and his wife are facing parenting challenges.
Cardoza has three children, two of whom were adopted.
He has previously said he did not plan to seek another term this year.
