NASA's Curiosity rover, which landed successfully on Mars Sunday night, has started beaming back its first photos.

The Ames center in Mountain View designed  the robot's chemical and mineralogy (CheMin) instrument and made other key contributions.

NASA engineers, who were nervous about the difficult landing, celebrate in this Associated Press video.
