Tuesday was a day of high political drama, as Mayor Ed Lee gave Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi until late afternoon to resign or face official misconduct charges and suspension over his guilty plea in the domestic violence incident with his wife.

Mirkarimi didn’t blink, and neither did Lee. From the Chronicle:

Mayor Ed Lee will move to oust Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi from office for official misconduct over a domestic violence incident, a decision that could spell the end to Mirkarimi’s political career.

Once Mirkarimi is formally served with the misconduct charges today, he will be suspended from office immediately, without pay, after less than three months on the job.

Watch both Mirkarimi’s announcement that he wasn’t doing any resigning, and Lee’s soon after that he was moving to oust the sheriff from office and was appointing Vicki Hennessy, the former Chief Deputy Sheriff, as interim sheriff.
