Musical renaissance man and Vallejo native Johnny Otis, often called the Godfather of R&B, died on Tuesday. His death was followed, this morning, by that of legendary R&B singer Etta James, whom Otis happened to have discovered and produced, and who lived in San Francisco’s Fillmore district as a kid.
