Muni Light-Rail Service Restored After SUV Drives Into Duboce Tunnel; Photo

SAN FRANCISCO Police have arrested an SUV driver who shut down San Francisco’s subway system for more than two hours after the vehicle went onto the underground tracks.

Muni spokesman Paul Rose says the vehicle entered a tunnel on Church Street shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday and drove eastward almost to the Van Ness Station. It stopped when it got stuck on the tracks.

No trains were involved, and no injuries were reported.

Muni manager Tyronne Julian chased down the vehicle and says the driver appeared intoxicated.

All underground train lines were shut down during the morning commute while crews removed the vehicle and inspected the system. Trains resumed service by 8:15 a.m.

On Thursday, January 19th, at 8:28am, due to an earlier incident at the Duboce Portal all Metro light rail services are in process of going back to regular service at the Duboce Portal. SF Muni shuttle buses remain in place between West Portal and Embarcadero until further notice.

(Bay City News) Shuttles are in place this morning between West Portal and Embarcadero Muni Metro stations after a car entered the tracks near San Francisco's Duboce Triangle neighborhood, according to a Muni spokesman.

There is no Muni light-rail service on the L-Taraval, M-Ocean View, N-Judah, K-Ingleside, J-Church and T-Third Street lines. Shuttles have been put into place on surface streets, according to Muni spokesman Paul Rose.

An SUV went into the tunnel at Church and Duboce streets, Rose said.

No injuries have been reported and no trains were involved in the incident, Rose said.

Emergency crews are trying to remove the car from the tracks and then repairs and testing will be needed, Rose said.

"This is going to take some time," he said. "I encourage commuters to consider other means of transit this morning."
