So. What’s a fella to say after becoming the first pitcher since at least 1900 to give up nine hits in just 1/3 of the first inning?

Nine hits, eight runs, one out. That’s the line score for Madison Bum Starter Bumgarner yesterday in the Giants’ 9-2 loss to the Twins. After the game, a visibly shaken Bumgarner faced the press. He called his execution “pretty pathetic,” which sounds about right. Here’s video of Bumgarner facing the press, from Comcast SportsNet Bay Area.

And what’s a manager say after such a disastrous outing? Video of Bruce Bochy’s comments here.

“I’ll be honest, that’s a first for me. To see it go quite like that,” Bochy said. “It’s hard to do…Even though he’s off, it’s still hard to do. I don’t care if you’re throwing batting practice out there. Single, double, single, double, and it kept going — just couldn’t stop it.”
