A memorial for the two firefighters killed in a San Francisco fire last week is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. Mayor Ed Lee and others are scheduled to speak.

Lieutenant Vince Perez, 48, and firefighter Anthony Valerio, 53, died from injuries sustained responding to a house fire in Diamond Heights.

The deaths represent the first time a San Francisco firefighter was killed in the line of duty since 2003, the first time one died in a fire since 1995, and the first time that more than one perished in a single blaze since 1946. Firefighters from all over the world are attending.
