Today marks the 150th anniversary of the Confederate Attack on Fort Sumter that began the Civil War.

Yesterday our newscaster Joshua Johnson put up a post about the Bay Area and California's role in the Civil War. Below is his full interview with St. Mary's College History Professor Carl Guarneri, which includes a recounting of a pistol duel between a California U.S. Senator and the state's Chief Justice, and support for the union in both gold shipments and volunteers.
