UPDATE: PG&E restored power to almost 25,000 residents so far. They're still working on getting the lights on for the last 3,000 folks. Here's the latest from PG&E:

Power has been restored to all but 3,000 customers. Our crew is working as quickly and safely as possible to restore power to the remaining 3,000 customers.
We have been communicating closely with the Mayor of Berkeley, City Manager, Berkeley School District and major customers to provide update on our restoration progress.

It's lights out in Berkeley for 27,000 residents and two BART stations. PG&E tells us the outage hit just after 11am. City officials say the power outage includes two of BART's three stations in the city, so no trains are stopping at the Downtown Berkeley or North Berkeley stations. No word yet on the cause, or when power will be restored. This is from PG&E:

Impacted area included downtown Berkeley, area from Martin Luther King Junior Way East to Fulton Street, between Cedar street and Bancroft Way. Area from University Ave South to Bancroft Way between Martin Luther King Junior Way and Shattuck Ave. Also, area north of the University campus, north from Hearst Ave to Leconte Ave, East from Oxford St to Highland Ave.
