SAN FRANCISCO -- A heavily traveled commuter route in San Francisco remains closed this morning while Caltrans crews work to remove debris scattered across the roadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The connector between northbound U.S. Highway 101 and northbound Interstate Highway 280 has been closed since just after midnight, when the CHP received reports of debris dangling from a sign over the slow lane.
CHP Officer Jonathan Short said it is unclear how the sign became damaged, but that it forced a closure of the roadway at 12:24 a.m., with a Sig-alert issued at 12:26 a.m.
Motorists are advised to seek an alternate route until after 7:45 a.m., when the CHP estimates that the roadway may reopen, although Short said that it could take crews longer than that to clear the roadway.
